When you create a listing on PangoBooks, the app pulls your book's details from our ISBN database, including weight. This works for most books, but the database may be incomplete for older books, rare books, or bundle listings like a full series. Some books don't have an ISBN at all.
How to enter a custom weight when creating a listing:
Scan or search your book's ISBN. When you scan the barcode or type in the ISBN, PangoBooks will try to auto-fill the book's details, including weight. If a weight appears, confirm it looks right before moving on.
Check for a blank weight field. If the weight didn't auto-fill, or you skipped entering an ISBN, you'll see an empty "Weight" field. This is most common with older, rare, or bundle listings.
Weigh your book if you have a scale. Use a kitchen or postal scale to weigh the book and record the total in ounces.
No scale? Use the weight chart below or check the ISBN online. Find your book type and choose the range that fits best.
Select "Weight" and "Enter a custom weight" and enter the total in ounces.
When in doubt, round up. A slightly heavier estimate is better than a lighter one. Underestimating the weight can leave you covering part of the shipping cost and needing to create a new label.
Weight Estimation Guidelines:
1 lb or less:
Mass market paperbacks & small children's books
Pango example: A Lady Never Surrenders by Sabrina Jefferies
1 to 2 lbs:
Standard trade paperbacks & YA-sized and standard adult-sized hardcovers
Pango example: Great Big Beautiful Life by Emily Henry
If your standard trade paperback weighs under 1lb, you may wish to mark it as 1 to 2lbs to account for packaging.
2 to 3 lbs:
500+ page trade paperbacks & heftier hardcovers, as well as standard-sized cookbooks
Pango example: House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas
3 to 4 lbs:
Heftier hardcovers, 500+ pages & small-to-medium textbooks and art books, as well as larger cookbooks
Pango example: The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens by Phil Szostak
4 to 5 lbs:
Larger textbooks and reference books & larger art books, as well as mass market paperback or 3-book box sets
Pango example: Outlander (1-4) paperback box set by Diana Gabaldon
5 to 6 lbs:
Larger textbooks & reference books, as well as paperback box sets
6 to 7 lbs:
Large coffee table books & larger paperback box sets
Pango example: A Court of Thorns and Roses (Paperback) box set by Sarah J Maas
7 to 8 lbs:
Very large coffee table books & heavier paperback multibook box sets
8 to 9 lbs:
Very large reference books & collections/box sets with multiple large hardcovers
9 to 10 lbs:
Extremely large and heavy books & large box sets/collections
Pango example: A Court of Thorns and Roses (Hardcover) box set by Sarah J Maas
