Shelves is a fun feature that lets users on PangoBooks curate books in any way they like! We've taken the Wishlist feature and expanded it to Shelves, which allows you to create multiple personalized lists of books. Have you been wanting to create a list of books you want to buy on Pango, as well as a list of your favorite reads? Now you can save multiple lists (aka Shelves) to your account!
How It Works: Just like with the Wishlist, books will still have the heart icon that you can click to save them. Now when doing so, you will be asked if you want to save the books to your Wishlist, which is a default shelf that everyone will have, or if you want to create a new shelf (e.g., "My Favorite Books," "Historical Fiction I Want to Read," etc.). All you have to do is click the plus sign (+) to add a new shelf to your collection.
Q: How do I navigate to the Shelves feature?
A: Once you're logged into your account, you'll click on the heart icon in the top navigation bar (on the website) or the heart in the bottom navigation bar (on the app) just like with the Wishlist, and you'll see your Shelves.
Q: What does it mean to save a copy versus saving the title?
A: One cool new feature with Shelves is that you can save either a specific copy of a book (i.e., that one individual listing that you want to save to buy) or the title in general. If you see a specific copy of a book that you just have to have but aren't quite ready to purchase yet, you can save that copy to one of your Shelves for easy access to buy later. If you're more interested in curating a list of books for reference, you may want to save the title rather than an individual copy.
Q: What are public versus private shelves?
A: When creating a new shelf, you can either make it public or private. Public shelves will be visible to other users and are a great way to share books (or your wishlist!) with your fellow book lovers! For example, if you are passionate about fantasy books, you can create a shelf of your favorite fantasy reads and make it public to share with other users. You'll be able to view shelves created by other Pangoers and might even find a new favorite book by browsing their shelves. Private shelves are only visible to you, so if you want to use Shelves more as a personal organization method, this is a great way to do that. Each shelf will have its own settings, so you can make some public and some private.
Q: Can I receive special offers on Shelves?
A: Currently, special offers can only be sent to books in your cart. We're hoping to expand upon this in the future!
Q: Can I share my shelves directly with others?
A: You can! When you click on the three dots next to a shelf's name, select "Share" and then you'll have the option to share the shelf via email by entering someone else's email address or by copying a shareable link. Please note that in order for others to view the shelves you've shared with them, the shelves must be set to public rather than private.
Q: Will I still know if the price changes on a book I have saved to a shelf like I did with the original wishlist tool?
A: Yes! On each shelf, if you click the three dots next to the shelf's name, you'll have the option to edit shelf details. From there, you can check or uncheck the box next to "Get notified on price drops" to indicate whether or not you want to receive notifications when prices drop on books on that particular shelf.
Q: How does Shelves impact me as a seller?
A: As a seller, there is nothing new you need to do when it comes to shelves; you might just notice a change in some notifications you receive, such as ones that state another Pangoer saved your listing to their private shelf.
We're excited about this feature and its ability to make your experience on PangoBooks as personalized and fun as possible, and we hope you love Shelves! If you have any questions at all, please contact us via chat or at support@pangobooks.com.
