When you try to scan your book’s barcode or ISBN in the app and receive a message like “barcode not found” or “ISBN not recognized,” it usually means our system doesn’t have that particular ISBN in its internal database yet.
What to do next
Use the “Enter ISBN” option
Tap the blue “Enter ISBN” button and type in the ISBN manually.Continue without the scan
If entering the ISBN still fails, you can skip the scan step and manually fill in all the relevant book details—title, author, condition, etc.—to complete your listing.Let us know the missing ISBN
Email support@pangobooks.com with the ISBN that didn’t scan. We’ll review and attempt to add it to our database. Over time, this helps future scans succeed.
❓Why this Happens
In many of these cases, we have information on the book in general, but because many books have numerous ISBNs for different editions, we may not yet have a record for the specific one you are trying to scan/enter. Additionally, some older titles may not yet have a record in our system.
Other Issues with ISBNs
Books with an X in the ISBN
Some books may also have ISBNs ending in 'X', which can pose challenges to our system. Try entering the ISBN without the trailing 'X'.
For example, instead of "096063889X," enter "096063889." If no match is found after entering the corrected ISBN, you can continue manually by clicking "Next," and then entering the book details yourself, along with clear photos to maximize buyer appeal.
Listing Book Sets
While a listing is intended for a single book, PangoBooks does allow users to sell similar books as sets in a single listing, such as a series. When creating these listings, do not scan an ISBN, but proceed to the listing information page. Provide a detailed description of all included books and upload clear photos showing each item to help buyers understand what they will receive.
Managing Multiple Copies of a Book
If you have multiple copies of the same book, create individual listings for each copy. Make sure to photograph each item separately to showcase its condition and features. PangoBooks does not support multi-quantity listings under a single entry, ensuring buyers receive accurate representations of each unique copy.
