Here at PangoBooks, our goal is to create the best and most welcoming place possible for folks to buy and sell books. We celebrate and welcome every type of book and every type of reader into our community, regardless of genre, reading level, or any other factor. You are the most important piece of the puzzle to make this successful!
Here are some community guidelines for PangoBooks users to ensure a safe, respectful, honest, and enjoyable environment on the platform:
Expectations for all Users
Respectful Communication (tl;dr: don’t spoil the fun for everyone!)
Be polite and respectful in all interactions with other users. The Golden Rule applies here! There is always someone else on the other side of the screen.
Have a question or concern? Communication is key! You can contact another user via messages through their shop page or your order details.
Pango Support is here to help. Have an issue with your order? The sooner you let Support know, the sooner the issue will be resolved.
Do not engage in hate speech, harassment, bullying, or any form of discriminatory behavior. Pango takes the safety of our users seriously and this behavior will result in a ban from our platform.
Keep all communication about transactions on the Pango platform. Do not contact the buyer or seller on another platform (TikTok, Instagram, etc.)
Accounts
PangoBooks users may have only one account.
Do not abuse promotional codes or create multiple accounts to exploit discounts or promotions. We love sharing deals with you, but we’re a small business too!
Respect the PangoBooks community by ensuring that your shop name and profile information are appropriate for all audiences. If you wouldn’t show it to your grandma, it doesn’t need to be on your Pango profile.
Account pages should include a short biography that tells other readers a little bit about you, what you sell and/or buy, and your reading tastes. Users may also wish to add a profile picture.
At this time, PangoBooks is for US-based users, but we do hope to expand in the future.
Off-Platform Transactions
All transactions related to book purchases and sales should be conducted on the PangoBooks platform. Encouraging off-platform sales is not permitted and could result in permanent suspension of your account.
Do not share personal contact information for transactions outside of PangoBooks. This is for your privacy, security, and safety!
Privacy and Safety
Safeguard your personal information and exercise caution when sharing personal details with other users.
If another user asks you to communicate off-platform or to share contact information not related to Pango activities, do not engage and let Support know.
Report any suspicious or potentially unsafe activities to PangoBooks Support immediately.
Sales & Seller Expectations
Accurate and Informative Listings
Describe your item clearly, accurately, and honestly. When creating a listing for a book, be sure to choose the correct condition and disclose any possible conditional issues, such as bends, breaks, writing in the margins, or anything else in your listing. There’s nothing wrong with old, used books. A little wear and tear is to be expected! We encourage you to be thorough when describing and presenting your books.
We encourage sellers to add details in the Seller Description and Attributes & Condition Details section that communicate what readers interested in the book may want to know, especially when it comes to its condition.
Use clear and truthful images of the book's condition. Your listings must feature your original photos so the buyer sees exactly which copy they'll receive. Strive to capture a book’s condition fully by including multiple photos from different angles in a listing.
Read more about each of the book conditions (New, Like New, Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor) for a full picture.
Listings on PangoBooks should be for individual books or, in some cases, bundles or collections, such as books in a series that are being offered as a set. We discourage sellers from listing large libraries or boxes of books in one single listing.
Every listing must include at least one hashtag in the description. Hashtags must be relevant and accurate to the listing.
Set a fair price. Price your books competitively and reasonably. Consider market value and condition when determining your prices.
Non-Book and Book-Related Merchandise
PangoBooks is dedicated to books. Do not list items unrelated to books, such as clothing, electronics, or other non-book merchandise. If you see such listings, please let Pango Support know!
Book-related merchandise should be directly related to books and reading (e.g., bookmarks, stickers, and book-themed artwork). Please note that these items are not eligible for USPS Media Mail shipping and require sellers to purchase a label separately. Please see here for more information on purchasing your own label.
Other non-book items that are welcome on our platform include magazines, comic books, graphic novels, journals, and zines.
Reliable Shipping and Delivery
Ship promptly. We ask that Pango sellers ship within three days of a book sale. If you are unable to ship within this timeframe, we ask that you send a message to the buyer to keep them informed about shipping expectations.
Ensure that your books are well-packaged to prevent damage during transit. Use appropriate materials and take care with more delicate hardcovers and fragile books. We encourage sellers to recycle shipping materials when they can, but be sure that any reused material is still in good enough shape and of an appropriate size for an order to ensure a book is packed well and makes it to its destination intact.
If a book is lost in shipment, Pango sellers are not responsible for refunding buyers and will still receive their earnings on the sale. If we are unable to verify that an item has been shipped, earnings may be withheld.
Resolutions and Returns
Pango allows buyers to report issues with books they receive within 72 hours of receipt. Doing so will prevent earnings from being posted to the seller's account while the Pango team reviews the situation. Our team will work to find a resolution for the buyer while still paying the seller their earnings. If a seller account receives a pattern of issue reports, this may result in account suspension.
In the event that a buyer receives a book that is different than as presented in the original listing, we may require the seller to accept a return. We will also work to avoid returns by offering reasonable accommodation to the buyer, but this may not always be possible.
If a Pango seller sends the wrong book, we will either elect to refund the buyer or arrange an exchange for the correct book.
Prompt and Respectful Communication and Support
Respond in a timely manner. Be responsive to inquiries and messages from potential buyers. Aim to answer questions and address concerns as quickly as possible.
Be courteous. Treat buyers with respect and courtesy. Address any issues or disputes in a professional manner. Any instances of disrespectful or unprofessional communication may result in account suspension.
Additional Selling Expectations
Items must be immediately available. On Pango, we do not allow drop-shipping or provide tools for pre-orders. All books you have listed must be in your possession and available for shipment.
Items must be ethically acquired. Books acquired from charitable lending services such as Little Free Libraries should not be sold on Pango.
Transactions must be completed on Pango. Any indication that sellers are attempting to move a sale off the Pango platform to avoid paying platform fees will result in account suspension.
If you need to cancel a sale as you no longer have the book or are not able to ship, you can do so from your account. We do not, however, permit sellers to then relist books at higher prices or in any other way that indicates that the cancellation was made for other reasons than what was communicated to the buyer.
Other Important Information
Books with covers that exhibit nudity or graphic violence can be sold, but may be barred from the main page of the site and app.
PangoBooks does not allow the sale of books that are deliberately abusive, racist, or threatening to a specific group of people. If any such books are listed, they will be reviewed and removed at the sole discretion of the PangoBooks team.
PangoBooks does not allow the sale of books that infringe on the copyright of authors, including counterfeit books and bound fanfiction. PangoBooks reserves the right to remove any such listings from our platform.
PangoBooks reserves the right to remove content at any time for any reason.
